Coming through
It's hard to find good help these days...You've heard the expression before, but it really is tough. The reason is because people just aren't dependable. It's hard to find someone who can come through for you every time you need them; no matter how simple or difficult the task may be. We can't be in all places at all times, but there are times where we depend on people so much that we NEED them to come through or else we don't have any options.
There is this clutch factor talked about in basketball. The game is on the line, and who gets the ball? It's always the star player...a Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant type, who is counted on in those situations to always deliver. Their team mates trust them with the outcome of the game because they can't do it themselves. The Go To Guy. Who is the go to guy in your life?
It's hard to believe, but Michael Jordan has missed quite a few game winners in his day (if you know me I'm a huge MJ fan). But the one person who always comes through is Jesus. Every situation, no matter how much time is on the clock, He comes through. I experienced this personally in the past few weeks when our ministry planned Jesusade, our latest basketball tournament event . We literally had no gym for this event, but God opened a way in the last minute. Through it all, I emailed my friends saying I had this strange calmness about me, even though I should have been freaking out. I knew if we trusted in Him, He would deliver. And He did.
The funny thing is...it wasn't just Jesus who came through. My friends did as well. I have never seen so much responsibility taken by our volunteers at this event. Literally, people gave up hours of their time to referee games, fill out scoresheets, and manage the 100 people who were there. It was amazing to see our mission statement of the ministry come alive before my very eyes. "To develop youth into a community for Christ." Not only did our community step up to do a great service, we were taking on the traits of Christ on "coming through".
God bless,

An unconditional Love...
Hey guys,
So I was thinking of what to write; the difficulty not being in not having anything to write, but rather having to sort through my thoughts of having soo many different subjects that have been on my mind recently, and that’s when it struck me. Across ALL of the subjects, whether it was about God’s amazing-ness, mercy, grace, sovereignty, or just ANYTHING about Him, there was one similarity… and that is God’s unconditional love that always (no matter what the circumstance is) shines through… I’m sure you can all agree, but I love having a relationship with a God that isn’t defined, nor changes, due to the surrounding circumstances! With that said… all I can say is…
My God, my God,
Of You, I stand in awe,
Not one day goes by
That Your love does not abound.
An unconditional love,
A love so faithful and pure,
A love affluent in nature,
Simply leaving me in awe.
That a God, so powerful and mighty as Yourself,
Would think about me.
Jesus, even upon that cross
You gave up Your ghost for me.
I can’t bear to think of the pain,
It must’ve caused you, to turn away
From Your only begotten Son,
Jesus Christ, the Holy One.
But you care so much for me
To send Him down, upon that Tree
Needless to say, my Lord, my God
It’s You alone I find captivating.
And as I see You
Face to face
I’m humbled by
Your warm embrace
I stand alone
To lift up Your Name
Knowing Your love
Will catch on like a flame
So, to this generation I say
Cast your burdens aside
‘Cause there’s an unconditional love
Awaiting your life…
Jesus alone can shed you some light
So, accept Him today
Cause He IS
The Way, the Truth, and the Life…
God Bless!

"Follow Him Into The World"
Hey guys! First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to thank God for everything He's done for me and all of us as a whole..I hope all of you who are reading these posts are being blessed by what is written. I haven't been feeling well the past few weeks as you can already tell because of the lack of posts by me:) But I'm glad that God has graced me with another chance to talk to y'all bout the things going on in my life and the things God so cleverly places in front of me;)...anyways, I listen to my fair share of music and a lot of the time, these songs that I listen to have a way of speaking so clearly to me. I know all you have to do is just listen to the lyrics, but for me..its a bit different. Every time I go to class, I'm so happy to hook up my Ipod and just listen to some great artists sing their hearts out to God and I can always feel the Spirit fill my car as I drive. So for me, the best time for me to really have a chance to worship God is in the tranquility and privacy of my own car. That for me is one of the greatest joys in my life..to have that time to just sit and worship God while driving to class. Recently, I was checking out some songs on the Internet when I came across a song from a band I often listen to. That song is called,"Follow you" by Leeland. For those of you who aren't familiar with this song, it really deals with servant hood..a topic that had been discussed earlier on. Basically, the song talks about doing what God told us to do in the New Testament..Matthew 28:19-20 to be specific..It reads,"19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (KJV)
This really says that we must make this the reason we live..not to be rich in a worldly sense but to serve God and tell those who do not of Him, that He is the Way, the Truth, the Life and be rich in the sense that we know of a God that is above all things! The song says that we should follow Him into the places of the world that are less fortunate than us and share what we experience as Christ-followers and hopefully impact their life in a great and positive way. In the song, Leeland asks the listeners, If God can give us salvation, why can't we give this knowledge of free salvation to others. Why are we so selfish as to keep such a great thing to ourselves...Our Mission: Save as many as we can!!!! I'm telling you guys, you gotta listen to this song and tell me after you listen to the song, that you didn't wanna just jump outta your seat and go save some souls! That's what I want to do..I wanna "Follow Him into the homes of the broken, Follow Him into the world, meet the needs for the poor and needy." This song brings me so much joy and makes me want to go out and do my part in this Great Mission that God commands us to do. I'm gonna stop talking so you can listen to this spectacular song...(There is a link below of a video I found of Leeland in Cambodia singing this song.) All the Glory to God..If anyone from the band Leeland is reading this, GREAT SONG...TRULY A MOVING SONG!!!
Thanks for reading
God Bless
ENJOY!!!!

Humility
Hey guys, I was sitting in front of my laptop and I wasn't sure what to write, but I knew I wanted to talk about a quality or character in a person. Then it hit me. Humility. This quality is sometimes really hard to show because we all want to be in that spot light or at least have people recognize us, but look what the Bible says...
1 Peter 5: 5: Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another , because " God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
As human beings, we all are guilty of being proud but we shouldn't. Any talents that we have, IT COMES FROM GOD. He gives and he can take it away. Think about it. Who are we? We're nothing more but clay and he's the potter. He made us in HIS perfect image. We are nothing without him. So thank God for what you have and lets humble ourselves.

WWYD
As Christians, we hear the question all the time....What Would Jesus Do? Every action, every word you speak, is perceived by the world as a reflection of who you are. Researchers have shown that first impressions are made by someone within 10 seconds of meeting you. So...what is the impression you give off?
Is it a different impression at work? At school? In front of certain friends? The answer for most of us (if we are honest with ourselves) is that we DO give off a different side of ourselves around certain people. But being a Christian is to be "like Christ." This is such and old school message...but I feel that our generation is missing the entire point. They are blurring the line between conforming, and being a true Christian. When being "like Christ" is offensive to some, compromise tends to set in because we are afraid to offend people. But God has not given us a spirit of fear, but rather we need to have a spirit of boldness.
There is a great message by Pastor Andy Stanley from Northpoint Community Church in Atlanta. His current series talks about Joseph and how he behaved knowing that God was with him at ALL times. No matter the circumstances. We all know Joseph's story...but put yourself in his shoes? How would you act when your brothers sell you? How would you act when your master wrongly accuses you? How would you act being thrown in prison for something you did not do? We all have experiences that can relate, and probably not as extreme as Joseph's. So ask yourself...if you really believe God is with you...What Would You Do?
God bless,

Servant hood
Our next project as a ministry is building a well in Africa....yup...you heard it right. A bunch of young Indian people are helping provide fresh drinking water to a continent where we aren't from. Why in the world would we do that? Why not India? Why not Chicago? Why not another cause that might be related to us in some way?
Well the answer is simple....why not? The love of Jesus is irrespective of country, origin, and background. So as Christians, we must adopt the same attitude. We shouldn't look to help others if it has some kind of self interest at heart. The ultimate reason behind servant hood is to put others ahead of ourselves. Every person you run into should be an opportunity to uplift them.
With that mindset, we present "Jesus-ade: Quench your thirst". We want to have the same attitude Jesus had when he talked to the Samaritan woman at the well and offered her water that would never make her thirsty again. Even though she was from a town that Jesus wasn't from, that didn't stop Him from giving her a gift she would never forget.
Our goal as a ministry is to "develop youth into a community for Christ." There is no better way to do that than by serving the community we are a part of. So lend a helping hand, have fun by participating, and let's come together to have an attitude like Christ. God bless and we'll see you at the tournament. Peace beyond Understanding
Hey guys, It's me Philly and I was just winding down after a long day and I was thinking about my life from these past couple months. I've realized something and that is my life is great. I have peace. I've had sleeping problems in the past like trying to sleep and staying asleep. Sometimes I'd get paranoid and think something was in my room. I started to form a relationship with Jesus and I asked for peace and he gave it to me. Let me tell ya, it's brilliant. I'm not scared anymore. His grace makes me feel safe and I never want to leave his light. It's his light that shines my path so that I don't stumble anymore. I thought of this song " I will rise " by Chris Tomlin. Only this song could describe how I feel. Enjoy!

Faith
Faith is really important to have in one’s Christian life. Scriptures says that when you believe or have faith you can move the mountains into the sea. The way I see it God is so powerful he can do anything he wants, but he’ll only do it when we believe he can do it. Look in the Gospels. The majority of everyone who was healed believes and because of that Jesus healed him or her. One instinctive example was the woman who bled for 10-12 years and doctors couldn’t do anything. She heard Jesus was in town and went to go see him. She desperately wanted to be healed and when she saw Jesus she knew he could. The amount of faith she had was incredible. She thought to herself if I could just touch a small piece of his cloak then I will be healed. When she had done this, Jesus felt the power leave him and he got up wondering who had touched him. The disciples were looking at him like he was crazy because half the town was trying to touch him. He knew though. The woman came back and Jesus said to her it’s neither my power nor my father’s power but it was your faith that has healed you. This is the faith that we need in our lives. The moment you doubt in your spiritual life that’s an open window for the devil and his demons to come in and take over. Don’t give him that window. Matthew 21:21-22 says
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to the mountains, go, throw yourself into the sea, and it will be done. (22) If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

There Is Something We Have Missed...
Sorry for the long post of all the lyrics, but I felt that it was necessary to have you guys check out the words to this song, especially since most of us just listen to the music and become emotionally moved; however, there is POWER in the lyrics, there is POWER in the Word of God, and well, you just know when God writes a song... b/c there is POWER in those lyrics/words as well.
Guys (and gals) there IS something we have missed... it's sad to say, but it's true... and that something is the LOVE of God.
You know that saying, or that song: "...and they'll know we are Christians by our Love by our Love, yes they'll know we are Christians by our looooovvveee" - HA, good stuff.. but are we living it out??
Isn't it sad to realize that most of this world knows us as Christians by our hypocrisies??
hy·poc·ri·sy (h

)

n. pl. hy·poc·ri·sies
1. The practice of professing beliefs, feelings, or virtues that one does not hold or possess; falseness.
2. An act or instance of such falseness.
It is TIME to stand up and say that WE will live for Christ, in all that we do. Not just in worship. Not just on Sunday mornings, but when we're at work. When we're at school. When we're at the grocery store... this world needs to see God's love shining through us. We need to begin to reflect His love in our lives, somehow, someway...
It's sad. It really is, when "Christianity" is viewed as people who confess their beliefs with their mouths, but fail to live it out. HONESTLY, i do it too. We ALL do it. But we need to say no more. No more to this world, and yes to reflecting His love.
When we're able to do that... it will TEAR DOWN THE WALLS that we OURSELVES have placed up in our lives. You want your walls to come CRUMBLING DOWN?? THEN STOP HOLDING UP THE WALL. Plain and simple.
And watch LOVE tear it down, and restore all creation back to Christ.
God Bless!

Tear Down The Walls
-Hillsong United-
verse 1
Tear down the walls see the world
Is there something we have missed
Turn from ourselves
Look beyond
There is so much more than this
pre-chorus
And I don’t need to see it to believe it
I don’t need to see it to believe it
Cause I can’t shake this
Fire deep inside my heart
verse 2
Look to the skies hope arise
See His majesty revealed
More than this life there is love
There is hope and this is real
pre-chorus - (1x)
chorus
This life is Yours and hope is rising
As Your glory floods our hearts
Let love tear down these walls
That all creation would
Come back to You
It’s all for You
Your Name is glorious
Glorious
Your love is changing us
Calling us
To worship in spirit and in truth
As all creation returns to You
bridge
Oh for all the sons and daughters
Who are walking in the darkness
You are calling us to lead them back to You
We will see Your spirit rising
As the lost come out of hiding
Every heart will see this hope we have in You

Hey guys and gals, this past week has been a downer because I realized that my summer is coming to a close as I will be starting my first year in college next week. Even though it should be an exciting feeling to be off to college, I still can't help but think about what I have done throughout the short summer months..or should I say what I haven't done. This summer was a crucial one because it was to be a time of preparation for the difficult road ahead. What I didn't realize is that without God, all my preparations, plans, and goals are in vain...To put it simply: its a complete waste. And that's exactly what I did... I put my desires; everything I had planned before God...It was like I totally forgot about Him until Sunday or T.N.P. (Thursday Night Prayer) came around.. I knew something was missing. I continued to sin and do what God would not approve of...slowly I forgot about reading The Word, praying, worshipping...everything that made me a born-again Christian. That was until I went to bed Monday night and a song called "All Along" by Remedy Drive came to play on my sleeping playlist...(yes...thats right...I have a sleeping playlist.) I listened to the lyrics deeply and started to rethink all the decisions I had made throughout my summer vacation and how I was even able to lay in my bed alive...Grace of God was the answer I came up with. One of the phrases in the song says, " I finally found what I could never see before, You've always been the one that I was looking for" Immediately after I heard that phrase, I felt the sudden urge to look around my room..What did I see? Sure enough, I saw the Bible sitting right next to my Ipod. This song really triggered me to open my eyes and see what a fool I've been for being blind to God...I knew He was there...somewhere around me...and yet I still falter..I still disobey...Don't make that mistake..always know that He is there and He holds your heart..not your desires and materialistic possessions of the world that will very soon whither away leaving nothing but God. And if you can't realize then that God is the answer...then...something wrong witchu!
Thanks for reading/listening:)

Unexpected Source
I woke up yesterday on the wrong side of the bed. If you know me, I'm always smiling and I can always look on the bright side. Even if I'm in a bad mood, I'll find someway to make you laugh. I can bet every single person I've ever met has laughed at least once while their around me; whether i was funny or not :)
But for no particular reason, yesterday was a downer. Then I got a call from a close friend who had the random message of telling me to keep my head up because sometimes you go through a desert before you reach the water. Often times there are moments in life where we experience a low, and it can come from nowhere. And although we know the age old lesson of the "light at the end of the tunnel"; we forget it because the problems or circumstances around us dilute it.
That's where we as a community have to be that unexpected source. It could be a song, a random text message, or simply a playful prank on someone to help them get away from their current circumstance a little bit. (See some of our videos for prank lessons LOL!) But do something for your friends and community to encourage them.
After hearing some uplifting words from my friend, I threw on my ipod and this song came on. Nope, its not a Christian song and I actually have probably only one or 2 secular songs on it. But it's humanly impossible NOT to smile or automatically get in a good mood when you hear it. I realized that no matter what situation, mood, circumstance, or problem we are in, there is always room to smile because everything will be alright. While you're looking at your watch waiting for things to happen, God is looking at the calendar. Everything will happen in the right time. So if you haven't smiled today or uplifted anyone, let me try. Check out this song and I dare you not to smile :)

Ruins
Hey guys – so I’ve recently come across this song I’ve had on my iPod for quite some time now, but I’ve either passed over it or intentionally did not want to listen to it, but one day God caught me off-guard with this song – hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.
You know that feeling of just being so unworthy? Or how God tends to bless you the most when you know you just don’t deserve it at ALL? Like… something good happens and you look up and ask… seriously? You did this for me? After I pretty much turned my back on you time and time again? Why?? (and I’m not even talking about turning your back on Him by disowning Him or something, I mean just by our daily thoughts, actions, desires, or our heart’s intentions)
And then you feel peaceful because God replies, “Because I love you, and because I can.”
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” – Matthew 6:26 (NIV)
Amazing.
Ruins – by Bebo Norman
Laying flat upon my back,
All the world in motion
Everything goes by so fast
I feel like I’m frozen
After all is said and done
Did I fail to mention
Everything I haven’t done
All my good intentions
This is my holy hour, this is my world on fire
This is my desperate play, this is where I am saved
I’ve no fear of height or depth
I’ve no fear of crashing
The single thing I fear the most
Simply feeling nothing
This is my holy hour, this is my world on fire
This is my desperate play, this is where I am made
This is my kingdom come, this is my freedom song
This is my helpless state, this is where I am saved
Let my ruins become the ground you build upon
Let my ruins become the start
Let my ruins become the ground you build it on
From what’s left of my broken heart
This is my holy hour, this is my world on fire
This is my desperate play, this is where I am made
This is my kingdom come, this is my freedom song
This is my helpless state, this is where I am saved
God Bless!

By my side
So last Thursday I sprained my ankle playing basketball and thought the rest of my summer would be spent hobbling around on crutches. But being the stubborn person that I am, I went to work the next day without seeing the doctor; making my foot feel a lot worse. Saturday morning comes around and my doctor confirms why I hate visits to the hospital in the first place. I always get some sort of bad news, and this was bad. It turns out I not only sprained my ankle, I fractured my foot in the process.
The doctor was surprised that I have been walking on it the whole time and said I need to be on crutches, and might possibly need to be in a cast for the next 4 weeks. Even though I had plenty of family/friends calling, texting, coming over, and supporting me, I was discouraged because I wanted to be involved in so many things this summer, but now I am forced to sit on the side lines.
Getting ready for church Sunday morning was a hassle, and I never knew putting pants on would be so difficult. I strolled into church on my crutches and automatically got the sympathy card from everyone. For the record, I am the type of person who hates pity, and wants to do things on my own (I know its a bad habit). Later in the service, the visiting pastor prayed for me and said Jesus had healed me. I didn't feel all tingly inside, or have a bolt of electricity shoot down on me, but I believe that nothing is impossible for my God. I started to press hard on my foot and couldn't feel any pain. After the service ended, half the church crowded around me to see me walking around without my crutches.
The biggest touch from God was not the healing that happened, but what occurred directly afterwards. My friends helped me walk around and then laid their hands on me to pray. More than the healing, that action and development in faith from my friends was an answer to prayer. I've had plenty of great friends over the years who genuinely care about me and still do. But our personal prayer and mission with this ministry is to develop a "community for Christ". I've longed to see that in Chicago and have heard plenty of complaints why that hasn't happened. But my testimony is that it is happening and God is using the youth in Chicago like never before. You pray for revival; I'm seeing it. I know God is always "by my side", but think about if we were by each others side in the same way God is there for us? Check out the song "By your side" by 10th Avenue North and you'll understand what I mean.
quick update: I went to the orthopedic doctor the Monday after I got prayed for. The doctor said amazingly all the swelling went away, and I wouldn't need a cast at all. She even said I don't need crutches and I'll be perfectly fine in a few weeks :)

Escape
Hey guys...here's a song that really means a lot to me and has lifted my heart up from the slums many times...it basically says that God is everywhere..from the air u breathe to the things u see..we sometimes feel as if we are alone and can't be seen by the eyes of our friends/family/church (if applicable)...but someone is always there...watching,hearing, feeling what we experience in our lives..."

Wow so here we are with our 2nd blog!! :) We’ve been talking about setting up this blog for awhile now, been kind of on our “wish-list”, if you will, so needless to say, this is exciting to actually have this up! To get right to it, God has placed something quite interesting upon my heart in the past couple weeks and I hope it encourages you all as well :)
I’ve been praying and seeking God’s guidance lately for friends of mine, so that I can better understand God’s ways/plans (hoping to receive something from Him, in an effort to edify my friends with God’s Word). Sure enough, God spoke. He took me to 2 Samuel Chapter 24. [If you have a moment, I encourage you read this chapter before continuing :)] For those that don’t have that time, let me paint the picture for you:
[God is angry with Israel, so he instills in David a desire to take a census of the people of Israel and Judah, which even after a warning from his Captain Joab, David refuses to listen and makes Joab go throughout the land to conduct this census. Needless to say, the amount of people was numerous. After the census was taken, “David’s conscience began to bother him” (v.10 – NLT) and he repented to God; however, as you continue to the read the chapter, you see that God punishes Israel for David’s sin.]
So why am I writing about this… well, it is essential to realize how important it is to GOD that we always put 100% of our trust in Him (if not more). This census had no purpose for David OR his men. Whether there were 700,000 good, strong fighting men or 2 weak little children, God would STILL be able to win any victory with His people. God is not limited, and because of that, neither are we, as long as we place our COMPLETE trust in Him.
It’s not up to us to trust in ourselves, ‘our’ abilities/talents, ‘our’ possessions, ‘our’ stamina, ‘our’ strength, or ‘our’ knowledge/wisdom (or lack thereof for that matter). Instead, we must know that none of these things are from or because of ourselves; rather, they are from GOD. So, rather than placing our trust in the THINGS that we have obtained in this world, let’s place our trust in the ONE who GAVE us these things in the very first place and ROC on for God!! :)
Whether there are 10 people available & willing to be used by God, or 100, I know that we were not called by God to look at the numbers, or the odds of reaching out to everyone, but if there’s one thing I DO know, it’s that God wants to do something in this city and He doesn’t need US to give HIM statistics. Instead, He just wants us to be available & willing to be used by Him.
So, be sure to get plugged in to a small group to learn more about how we can stay strong on this walk with Christ! Contact us to find a small group nearest you!
God Bless!

Welcome to our Blog: Small Groups
Welcome to our first posting of the ROC 322 blog! Every Thursday you will hear from someone new in the group about thoughts God has put on their heart. We are excited about the amazing things God is doing to us as youth, as well as what He has planned for Chicago. Our ministry is unique...:) If you've seen our Youtube channel, or promo videos....you can tell we have a sense of humor (i hope!).
We take this approach to relate more with the youth, so that we can come together as a community. Instead of holding the traditional worship meetings and overlapping efforts of many effective ministries out there, we feel that building relationships through unique events and small groups are an alternative way to fellowship and grow in the Lord. Acts 2:42-47 talks about the 1st century church and how the believers "continued steadfastly in the apostle's teaching and fellowship in the breaking of bread and the prayers." (v. 42).
I am proud to say this small group feel is the basis of our ministry. Take some time to read our history of how we started on our website at roc322.org, and you can see that our Thursday Night Prayer group (TNP) is how we formed this bond and started to reach out to the community. Since 2005, our core group has been getting together for prayer and it has only strengthened us as friends and believers. Anyone can have an "experience" at a church/meeting/concert... but where do you go from there? How do you stay consistent in growing with the Word and living a good Christian life EVERYDAY, and not just on Sunday?
By getting into a small group! So get plugged in somewhere.... through our groups, your local church, or ask your friends. Together we can become a "community for Christ".
